Ponte di Rialto

Rialto_bridgeThe Ponte di Rialto, or Rialto Bridge, is the oldest bridge across the Grand Canal, in Venice, and the most famous in the city. It used to be a floating bridge, but the Rialto market developed importance, so it was replaced by a wooden bridge around 1250. It collapsed a couple of times, so in 1503  the idea of rebuild it in stone was suggested, and the idea was carried out in 1591, designed by Antonio da Ponte, and becoming an icon of Venice.

Lido

LidoLido is an island (actually, a sandbar) in Venece, that splits the sea and the lagoon, very famous nowadays for its Movie Festival held every year. Back in 1920 it used to be the most important beach in Italy, and still maintains its aristocratic atmosphere. You can enjoy the beach bathed by the Adriatic Sea, ideal for swimming. A couple of interesting facts: Thomas Mann wrote "A Death in Venice" on this island, and some scenes of "The English Patient" were shot here, inside the Hotel Des Baines.
